Tourism in Minsk
Minsk is the capital of Belarus and the former capital of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1918-1991. The earliest administrative references date to 1067 as a provincial city and in 1499 Minsk received its town privileges. Both World War I and World War II had devastating effects on the city's development and demographics. Minsk had to be rebuilt almost entirely after World War II. It is the largest city in Belarus and the biggest political, economic, scientific and cultural center of the country. Weather in Minsk is moderate, with warm summers and cold and dry winters due to the strong influences of the moist air from the Atlantic Ocean and dry air of Eurasian landmass.
With a population of approximately 1,836,808 inhabitants, Minsk is truly an interesting cultural and historical city. If you want to travel to Minsk you should know that the city is really beautiful in the summer when it hosts a lot of nice and chic street cafes but in the winter, Minsk is famous for its fabulous lightning and tourists can still enjoy the city's museums, historical sites or famous ballet and opera representations. Minsk Airport is the international airport in Belarus located at only 42 km east from Minsk with a capacity for almost 5.8 million passengers every year. Accommodation in Minsk is very easy, depending on your needs and preferences. You can find a lot of apartments from $50 per room, right in the center of the city.
The most attractive museums and churches in Minsk are: the Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, St. Mary Magdalene Church (the largest church built in Imperial Russia), the National Academy of Opera and Ballet, the Great Patriotic War Museum. Also, a very interesting site is the Minsk Arena Complex which is unique in all Europe for its complexity and functionality. It primarily hosts ice hockey games but it is also used for many big concerts and performances.
